Pulmonary thromboembolism in pregnancy: Diagnostic imaging and related consideration

چکیده
Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) in pregnancy as a common cause of maternal death has been a challenge for both clinicians and radiologists. Choosing the appropriate modality in each case has been under question and there are also related imaging pitfalls and hesitancy about radiation exposure and using contrast media for a pregnant mother. The aim of this article is to review the imaging modalities used to investigate PTE in pregnancy, related pitfalls, and recommendations for optimizing them.

Adequate diagnostic management of suspected venous thromboembolism (VTE) in pregnant women is of great importance. The diagnostic performance of clinical decision rules and D-dimer testing is influenced by physiological changes during pregnancy and is understudied. Recent studies have addressed these issues by developing a new clinical decision rule and raising the D-dimer level cut-off points....

Several aspects of the diagnostic and therapeutic management of women with venous thrombosis are uncertain. In this overview, I will discuss three major areas. First, the contribution of hormone use to venous thromboembolism (VTE) will be discussed as prudent prescribing of safe preparations can further reduce the risk of hormone-related VTE. Uncertainties remain regarding certain low-dose prog...
